Passed Over

One good thing about reorganzing my Jewish children's books bibiliography, besides making it more user friendly, is I've realized that certain areas are badly underrepresented. One lousy Rosh Hashanah book and nothing at all on Yom Kippur--this will not stand! (Actually, as I recall, it's a good Rosh Hashanah book, but never mind.) After Passover, I'll put some work into finding other titles. In the meantime, may I recommend, The Family Treasury of Jewish Holidays for your general holiday needs.

Currently Reading: Don't Get Too Comfortable by David Rakoff

Warning - political views ahead!

What a fascinating book this is. The first piece is about Canadian-born Rakoff choosing to become an American citizen--at exactly the same time and for the same reasons many Americans were fleeing to Canada: "George W. Bush made me want to be an American." I have a great deal of sympathy with those who went the other way--I've even considered joining them--which just makes me admire Rakoff all the more for choosing the right to vote in the United States at a time when every vote was needed, even if not counted.

Oh, and he's funny too.
